Miofolic Men helps maintain hormonal balance and normal reproductive function in males. Around 1 in 7 couples have difficulty conceiving.
Statistics show that 50% of couples experiencing problems suffer from both male factor infertility or male and female factors at the same time. As such, men need to undergo a medical examination to find the likely cause and improve reproductive activity.
Spermiogram
The Spermiogram (or semen analysis) is a laboratory test to help evaluate male fertility potential. It is the first and most specific test requested as it analyses the semen to check the quality and quantity of sperm.
Causes of infertility in men
There are many causes of infertility in men. These include congenital defects, injury, disease and side-effects to medicines such as steroids or chemotherapy.
However, a large proportion of male infertility cases are undiagnosed and undetected. Such cases are called idiopathic infertility.
Idiopathic infertility
Idiopathic infertility is characterised as sperm parameters lower than the World Health Organization (WHO) reference values.
The values refer to oligozoospermia (low sperm count – fewer than 15 million sperm permillilitre of semen), asthenozoospermia (reduced sperm mobility) and teratozoospermia (abnormal sperm shape). Together, they are referred to as Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT).
OAT is the cause of male infertility in 33% of cases. Idiopathic infertility occurs in 25-30% of patients with this diagnosis.
